Fear of blushing (ereuthophobia)

A fear of blushing can show up in meetings, on first dates, when you are the centre of attention or when someone simply says your name. The worry about going red often makes it happen, and it is something I help people with regularly.

What it feels like

  • Dreading being put on the spot
  • Avoiding eye contact or speaking up
  • Checking your face in mirrors and windows

Common questions

Does worrying about blushing make it worse?

Very often, yes. Fearing that you will blush sets off the body’s stress response, and that can bring on the flush you were dreading. Learning to stay calm in those moments usually takes the pressure off.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
