Fear of riding in cars (amaxophobia)
A fear of riding in cars can show up on motorways, on busy roads or just as a passenger. It can make family trips and getting to work stressful, and it can be helped.
What it feels like
- Gripping the seat or watching the road
- Feeling anxious when someone else is driving
- Avoiding trips by car where possible
Common questions
Is this the same as a fear of driving?
Not quite. Amaxophobia is usually about being a passenger, often because you are not in control. A fear of driving is different, though some people have both.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
