Fear of cockroaches (katsaridaphobia)

A fear of cockroaches can show up in kitchens, hotel rooms, on holiday and in the dark when you flick the light on. The sudden scuttle can set off a strong reaction. It can be helped.

What it feels like

  • Checking rooms before going in
  • Freezing or screaming at a sudden scuttle
  • Feeling unclean after seeing one

Common questions

Is it normal to be this scared of an insect?

It is more common than you might think. Cockroaches move fast and unpredictably, and many people link them with dirt and disgust, so the reaction can be strong. That does not mean there is anything wrong with you.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
