Fear of clowns (coulrophobia)

Clowns are meant to be fun, but for many people the painted face and unpredictable behaviour feel unsettling, even frightening.

What it feels like

  • Discomfort at parties, circuses or festivals
  • A strong reaction to clowns in films or adverts
  • Unease about masks or heavy face paint

Common questions

Where does it come from?

Often a frightening encounter as a child, or a horror film seen too young. Not being able to read someone’s real expression is a big part of it.

How do sessions work?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to clowns. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
