Fear of public toilets

A fear of public toilets can mean planning every trip around being close to home, or not being able to go when others might hear.

What it feels like

  • Avoiding public or shared toilets
  • Being unable to go when someone else is nearby
  • Cutting down on drinks before going out

If you have any bladder or bowel symptoms, please get them checked by your GP too.

Common questions

Where does it come from?

Often linked to embarrassment, a fear of germs, or a bad experience. For some people it’s a specific difficulty known as shy bladder (paruresis).

How do sessions work?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to public toilets. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
