Fear of ants (myrmecophobia)
A fear of ants can show up on picnics, in kitchens, in the garden or on a country walk. The sight of a trail, or the thought of them crawling on you, is often enough to set it off. It can be helped.
What it feels like
- Avoiding picnics, lawns and sitting on grass
- Checking surfaces and food for ants
- Feeling itchy or crawly at the thought
Common questions
Why do tiny ants frighten me?
Size has little to do with it. It is often the numbers, the quick movement and the idea of them crawling on your skin. The reaction is automatic, and that same automatic part of the mind can learn a calmer response.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
