Fear of bad breath (halitophobia)

A fear of bad breath can show up in close conversations, meetings, on dates or on public transport. You may brush, rinse and chew mints constantly and still feel unsure. It can be helped.

What it feels like

  • Checking your breath again and again
  • Covering your mouth or keeping your distance
  • Using mints or mouthwash constantly

Please note: If you are concerned about a genuine breath problem, a dentist or your GP can check this first.

Common questions

How do I know if it is real or just worry?

Many people who fear bad breath have perfectly normal breath, but the worry feels completely real. If you are unsure, a dentist can check, and then we can work on the anxiety itself.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
