Fear of balloons (globophobia)

A fear of balloons can show up at birthday parties, weddings, shop displays and school events. For many people it is the sudden bang that frightens them most. It sounds unusual to others, but the fear is very real and can be helped.

What it feels like

  • Tensing up when balloons are in the room
  • Dreading the moment one might burst
  • Avoiding parties or celebrations with balloons

Common questions

Is it the balloon or the bang?

It can be either, or both. Some people fear the sudden loud pop, some dislike the squeaky feel or sound, and some fear the build-up of waiting for it to burst. Working out which it is helps us choose the right approach.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
