Fear of being buried alive (taphophobia)
A fear of being buried alive can show up around funerals, graves, cemeteries or even a tight tunnel. It can be upsetting to talk about, and it can be helped.
What it feels like
- Worrying about what happens after death
- Avoiding funerals, graveyards or burial talk
- Feeling panic in tight or enclosed spaces
Common questions
Is this linked to claustrophobia?
Often, yes. A fear of being trapped in small spaces can feed into it, but some people fear graves and cemeteries without any fear of enclosed spaces. We look at what your own fear is made of.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
