Fear of chickens (alektorophobia)

A fear of chickens can show up on farms, in gardens, at petting zoos and even at the sight of a feather. It is an unusual fear, but it is very real to the person who has it, and it can be helped.

What it feels like

  • Avoiding farms, gardens or petting zoos
  • Feeling uneasy around feathers or pecking
  • Panicking if a hen gets too close

Common questions

Is it silly to be afraid of chickens?

Not at all. Birds move quickly and unpredictably, and it only takes one scary moment, often in childhood, for the fear to take hold. It is less common than some fears, but it is nothing to be ashamed of.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
