Fear of crowds (enochlophobia)

A fear of crowds can show up on trains, in shops, at concerts, in queues and at busy events. It can make everyday outings tiring, and it can be helped.

What it feels like

  • Avoiding busy shops, trains or events
  • Needing to sit near the exit
  • Feeling hot, shaky or trapped among people

Common questions

Is this the same as agoraphobia?

They overlap. A fear of crowds is about being among lots of people, while agoraphobia is wider and often about feeling unable to escape or get help. We would look at which one fits you.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
