Fear of dining with others (deipnophobia)
A fear of dining with others can show up at restaurants, work lunches, family meals and parties. It is a form of social anxiety, and it can make eating together feel like a performance, but it can be helped.
What it feels like
- Turning down invitations to eat out
- Worrying about being watched while eating
- Feeling sick or tense at shared meals
Common questions
Is this the same as social anxiety?
It is a form of it, focused on eating in front of others. You may be fine in other social settings but tense at the table. We would look at what worries you most there.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
