Fear of earthquakes (seismophobia)
A fear of earthquakes can show up after news footage, a film, a trip abroad or a tremor you once felt. It can bring on worry about buildings, bridges and even a rumbling lorry, and it can be helped.
What it feels like
- Scanning rooms for exits and safe spots
- Feeling jumpy at any sudden shake or rumble
- Dreading travel to places with earthquakes
Common questions
Can I fear earthquakes if I live somewhere without them?
Yes. News stories and films can plant the fear, and so can an earthquake felt on holiday. The mind reacts to the picture of danger, wherever you live.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
