Fear of fire (pyrophobia)

A fear of fire can show up around candles, bonfires, cookers, barbecues, fireworks or the smell of smoke. It can make ordinary home life stressful, and it can be helped.

What it feels like

  • Checking cookers and plugs again and again
  • Avoiding bonfires, candles or open fires
  • Feeling panicky at the smell of smoke

Common questions

Is a fear of fire just sensible caution?

Respecting fire is healthy. It becomes a phobia when even a candle or a barbecue brings strong panic and you start avoiding normal things. It often follows a frightening experience, though not always.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
