Fear of heart disease or heart attack (cardiophobia)
A fear of heart disease or a heart attack can show up whenever you notice your pulse, a flutter or a twinge in your chest. It often builds up alongside panic attacks, and it can be helped.
What it feels like
- Checking your pulse again and again
- Reading every chest sensation as danger
- Avoiding exercise in case it sets off symptoms
Please note: If you have chest pain or palpitations, please see your GP first so we know your heart is healthy.
Common questions
Why does panic feel so much like a heart problem?
Panic can bring a racing heart, tight chest and breathlessness, which look a lot like heart symptoms. That is why the two get mixed up so easily. Once your heart has been checked, we can work on the fear.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
