Fear of very large objects (megalophobia)

A fear of very large objects can show up beside big ships, statues, skyscrapers, dams or in films and photos of huge things. Feeling tiny and unsafe is the usual reaction. It can be helped.

What it feels like

  • Feeling small and uneasy beside huge things
  • Avoiding ships, statues or tall buildings
  • Finding photos or films of huge objects upsetting

Common questions

Is this the same as a fear of heights?

Not exactly. A fear of heights is about falling, while megalophobia is more about the sheer size of an object and how it makes you feel. Some people have both, which is why we look at what your fear is actually about.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
