Fear of lawsuits (liticaphobia)

Liticaphobia is a fear of lawsuits, whether of being sued or of having to take someone to court. It can lead people to avoid signing contracts, turn down work, or lie awake over a minor dispute with a neighbour or business.

About this phobia

The term shares a root with the word litigation and is rarely reported outside lists of phobias. It is not a clinical diagnosis. It may overlap with more general worry about authority, money or conflict.

What it feels like

  • Reading the small print many times before agreeing to anything
  • Worry that a small mistake could lead to legal action
  • Avoiding complaints or disputes even when in the right

Common questions

What can help with constant worry about being sued?

Getting clear, practical information often helps, for example from a solicitor or Citizens Advice, so the worry is based on facts. If the fear stays high even after that, it may be more about anxiety than real legal risk.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
