Fear of mirrors (catoptrophobia)
A fear of mirrors can show up in bathrooms, changing rooms, hallways and dark rooms. For some it is about seeing a reflection, and for others it is a feeling that something is wrong in the glass, and it can be helped.
What it feels like
- Covering or avoiding mirrors at home
- Feeling uneasy catching your own reflection
- Avoiding mirrors in the dark
Common questions
Is it the same as spectrophobia?
The words are sometimes used for the same fear, though spectrophobia can also mean a fear of ghosts. It is the feeling you get around mirrors that matters most for our work.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
