Fear of needles (trypanophobia)
A fear of needles can stop you having blood tests, vaccinations or treatment you need, so many people quietly put off appointments for years.
What it feels like
- Dread in the days before an appointment
- A racing heart, sweating or feeling sick
- Feeling faint, or actually fainting
If you tend to faint, tell the nurse or doctor beforehand so you can lie down. It’s very common and they’ll be used to it.
Common questions
Where does it come from?
Often a painful or frightening injection in childhood, or being held still for one. It can also be learned from a parent, or linked to a fear of blood or hospitals.
How do sessions work?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP, and we rehearse the appointment in your mind so the real thing feels familiar. You also get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to beforehand.
I have an appointment coming up. Can you help in time?
Many clients find one 90 minute session is enough to get through the appointment they’ve been dreading. Let me know the date so we can plan around it. Hypnotherapy works alongside your medical care, not instead of it.
