Fear of objects on the left (levophobia)
Levophobia is a fear of objects on the left side of the body. A person might always keep bags, people or furniture to their right, feel uneasy when someone walks on their left, or pick seats where the left side is against a wall.
About this phobia
The name links to the Latin laevus, meaning left. It is a rare term found mostly on phobia lists. A related word, sinistrophobia, is also given as a fear of left-handed people or of things on the left, while dextrophobia appears on the same lists as a fear of things on the right.
What it feels like
- Tension when something or someone is close on the left side
- Arranging desks, beds and seats to protect the left side
- Turning the body to keep things in view on the right

Common questions
Why would someone fear things on their left side?
There is no single known reason. Sometimes it links back to a past accident or shock that came from that side, and sometimes it grows from a habit that turned into a worry. Thinking about when it started can give useful clues.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
