Fear of pain (algophobia)
Nobody likes pain, but a fear of pain can mean avoiding exercise, putting off treatment, or worrying about a procedure for weeks beforehand.
What it feels like
- Avoiding activities in case they hurt
- Dreading injections, dental work or procedures
- Worrying about pain more than the pain itself
If you’re living with pain, please keep working with your GP. Hypnotherapy can help with the fear and tension around it, alongside your medical care.
Common questions
Where does it come from?
Often a painful injury or procedure in the past, or watching someone close to you suffer.
How do sessions work?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the idea of pain. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
