Fear of phone calls (telephobia)

A fear of phone calls can show up when the phone rings, when you have to ring a stranger or when a voicemail is waiting. It can hold you back at work and at home, and it can be helped.

What it feels like

  • Letting calls ring out and putting off replies
  • Rehearsing what to say before every call
  • Feeling your heart race when the phone rings

Common questions

Is a fear of phone calls the same as social anxiety?

It is often a form of social anxiety. Milder versions are widespread, and plenty of people simply prefer to text. It becomes a phobia when the dread stops you doing things you need to do.

How can you help?

I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
