Fear of roller coasters (veloxrotaphobia)
A fear of roller coasters can show up in theme parks, on family days out and when friends say it will be fun. It is a coined term, but the dread is real, and it can be helped.
What it feels like
- Feeling sick watching rides climb and drop
- Avoiding theme parks or waiting at the exit
- Imagining the harness failing or losing control
Common questions
Is it normal to fear roller coasters?
Many people find them intense, and not enjoying them is perfectly fine. It becomes a phobia when you feel strong panic, or when it stops you joining in with family and friends.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
