Fear of stairs and steep slopes (bathmophobia)
A fear of stairs and steep slopes can show up on staircases, escalators, hills and hillside paths. It can make everyday places feel hard to get around, and it can be helped.
What it feels like
- Holding the rail tightly on every step
- Avoiding steep hills, stairs or escalators
- Feeling dizzy looking up or down a slope
Common questions
Why do I fear going down more than up?
Going down is when many people feel most exposed to a fall, so the fear can be stronger. It varies from person to person, and we would look at your own pattern.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
