Fear of string (linonophobia)
Linonophobia is a fear of string. It might show up as discomfort handling parcels, knitting yarn or kite lines, or a strong reaction to loose threads, tangles or string wound around fingers.
About this phobia
This is a rare term found mostly on lists of phobias, with little or no clinical writing behind it. Where the fear is real, it is often linked to something more specific, such as a worry about tangling, feeling trapped, or a past injury involving cord or rope.
What it feels like
- Avoiding touching string, twine or yarn
- Feeling tense around tangles, knots or loose threads
- Unease seeing string wrapped tightly around anything

Common questions
Is linonophobia a real phobia?
It does appear on phobia lists, but very little has been documented about it. That does not make the feeling any less real for someone who has it, and a fear of something everyday can still cause genuine distress.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
