Fear of computers (cyberphobia)
Cyberphobia is a fear of computers. It can show up as avoiding online forms, feeling panicky when a screen freezes, or putting off work tasks that need a laptop, and it may leave someone feeling left behind as more of daily life moves online.
About this phobia
The word belongs to an earlier era of computing and now sounds rather old-fashioned, though it is still found on some lists. It is closely related to technophobia, a broader fear or dislike of new technology. Today the same feelings often attach to smartphones, apps and online banking rather than desktop machines.
What it feels like
- Fear of pressing the wrong key and breaking something or losing work
- Asking others to handle emails, bookings or online forms
- Embarrassment or a racing heart when asked to use a computer in front of people

Common questions
Is cyberphobia just a lack of confidence with technology?
Sometimes it starts that way, but a phobia goes further than feeling unsure. It can involve real anxiety, avoidance and a sense of dread that does not ease with simple instructions. Small, steady practice in a calm setting can help people feel less overwhelmed.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
