Fear of witches (wiccaphobia)
Wiccaphobia is a fear of witches and witchcraft. It may show up as unease around Halloween, avoiding films or books with witches, or a worry about curses, spells or being targeted by magic.
About this phobia
The name borrows wicca, an Old English word for a witch that is also the name of a modern pagan religion. It is a rare list term with little clinical writing. The fear can be shaped by culture, upbringing and religious belief, and in some places beliefs about witchcraft are taken very seriously.
What it feels like
- Unease or dread around Halloween costumes and decorations
- Worry that someone has put a curse or spell on you
- Avoiding shops, books or films linked to the occult

Common questions
Can a fear of witches start in childhood?
Many people trace it back to frightening stories, films or beliefs they met when young. Cultural and family beliefs can make it feel very real, and it is worth approaching with respect for those beliefs while looking at how much the fear limits daily life.
How can you help?
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to change how your mind responds to the thing you fear, so the old alarm stops going off. Sessions are one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients notice a real difference after one 90 minute session. If the fear goes back a long way, three sessions gives us room to make the change stick.
